Examining the nonlinear impact of coal and oil-based electricity production on CO2 emissions in India

Building upon the present growth paradigm of India, the authors of this paper examined the impact of coal-fired and oil-fired electrical power generation on CO₂ emissions in India for the period of 1976−2016. The simulation results confirmed that the upside shocks in coal-fired electricity will contribute considerably to increase the pollution level in the long run. Contrarily, the impact of downside variations was found to be negative and significant.     

A closed loop supply chain under retail price and product quality dependent demand

The importance of remanufacturing of used products, maintaining the same quality as new ones has been widely recognized in practice. In this paper, we address a closed loop supply chain where the manufacturer manufactures a product with a decent quality acceptable to customers, and sells it through a retailer in the market. A third party collects the used products from consumers and sends to the manufacturer. The manufacturer re-manufactures the used product and the quality of remanufactured product is the same as that of the manufactured one. For such a closed loop supply chain, we construct five different scenarios – centralized, decentralized or Nash game and three different Stackelberg games, led by the manufacturer, retailer and third party respectively. We compare the optimal results to find out the best decentralized scenario out of the four mentioned. A numerical example is taken to study the impacts of product quality on demand as well as optimal decisions and investigate sensitivity of some key model-parameters.     

Nonlinear model-based track guidance of user-defined points at the vehicle front

Preventive pedestrian protection systems are validated by means of fully automated driving tests reproducing safety-critical traffic situations on a proving ground. In order to assess these preventive safety systems, a precise and reproducible collision of a pedestrian dummy with a specific point at the vehicle front, e.g., the left corner of the vehicle, must be ensured. Hence, a track guidance of this specific point is required. Beyond the state of the art a new nonlinear model describing the lateral deviation of any point at the vehicle front to a predefined path is proposed in this paper. Based on this model the method of input–output linearization is used to design a flexible lateral guidance system for an easy application in different vehicles. Furthermore, the closed-loop stability is proven and experimental results are presented.

DG planning with amalgamation of economic and reliability considerations

Distributed generation has been playing a vital role in dealing with issues related to distribution systems. This paper presents an approach which provides the distribution system operator with a set of solutions for DG placement to optimize reliability and total cost of power consumed by the distribution system. Optimal location of a Distributed Generator is evaluated based on the performance indices derived for reliability index and total cost of power consumed by the system. The proposed approach is applied to a 15-bus radial distribution system and a 18-bus radial distribution system and the results are analyzed.     

Quality improvement and backorder price discount under controllable lead time in an inventory model

The proposed study investigates a continuous review inventory model with order quantity, reorder point, backorder price discount, process quality, and lead time as decision variables. An investment function is used to improve the process quality. Two models are developed based on the probability distribution of lead time demand. The lead time demand follows a normal distribution in the first model and in the second model it does not follow any specific distribution but mean and standard deviation are known. We prove two lemmas to obtain optimal solutions for the normal distribution model and distribution free model. Finally, some numerical examples are given to illustrate the model.

An inventory model with truncated exponential replenishment intervals and special sale offer

In this study, we develop an inventory model with stochastic replenishment intervals and special sale offer from a supplier. The replenishment interval is assumed to obey a truncated exponential distribution and shortage is partially backordered. Our goal in this research is to maximize the total profit of cost savings due to special sale offer from supplier. A closed-form solution of the model and its convexity condition is developed. A numerical example with real world data is provided to illustrate the theory.
